PSE's Gas Operations team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Damage Prevention Rep position!

Job Description

Three times a day—or about 1,000 times a year—excavators put their lives at risk by digging into a PSE natural gas pipeline or underground electric cable. PSE is looking for people who care enough about preventing these accidents that they will use every means of persuasion, including facing down a contractor, to get him to dig more safely.

As our damage prevention field rep, you’ll drive from job site to job site to engage excavators about how they are digging. Over time, you’ll develop relationships with the contractors in your area, educating them about best practices and Washington’s dig law. You’ll help them make better use of the resources available to accurately locate underground facilities, give them “atta-boys” when they dig safely, and call them out when they don’t.

This position works closely with PSE’s electric and gas first response teams and the technicians who locate underground lines. It reports to PSE’s damage prevention supervisor in the Public Safety Department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • 5 years relevant work experience
  • Extensive experience in underground utility construction
  • Knowledge of Company’s field operations and practices, industry construction standards and safety requirements
  • Thorough understanding of underground utility installation standards, methods and best practices
  • Thorough understanding of the Washington state dig law and the procedures for enforcement
  • Ability to give presentations, both formal and informal, to groups of construction workers
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically and firmly in situations where conflict may arise
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of PSE’s field operations and practices as well as utility industry underground installation construction standards, best practices and safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of gas and electric utility rates, business objectives, to include operations, customer service, claims, and corporate relations.
  • Proficiency in a language other than English, especially Spanish or Russian
  • MS Office
