PSE's Engineering Operations team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Sr Engineer - Electric Transmission position!

Job Responsibilities
  • Leads creation of department standards, design templates and processes.
  • Performs complex designs, studies and analyses for new and existing transmission lines, transmission line relocations, thermal uprates, reconductors, equipment attachments, underground and overhead system projects.
  • Provides a detailed design review of internal or external technical documents.
  • Prepares cost estimates and project evaluations without direct supervision.
  • Ensures compliance with codes, standards, and design, operation, and maintenance requirements.
  • Identifies potential areas of weakness with assigned work, and initiates corrective action where necessary to ensure success.
  • Documents and shares work with others to strengthen the depth and breadth of skills within PSE’s engineering workforce.
  • Provides training to entry-level and new staff on department work practices and company standards.
  • Reviews the work of engineering staff and provides technical leadership to others in the department and throughout the company.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • May lead or coordinate the work of junior engineers, engineering assistants, field technicians, and others who assist on specific projects. (This includes contractor/consultants.)
  • Supports internal and external customer needs and requirements, while handling shifting budgets and priorities.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or other appropriate engineering field.
  • Substantial experience in planning, design, specification preparation, maintenance, project cost estimating and scheduling (typically achieved after 8 years of engineering experience).
  • Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient with PLS-CADD design software.
Desired Qualifications
  • Possession of or ability to acquire a Professional Engineering license.
  • Experience with PLS-TOWER design software, and LPILE or FAD Tools foundation design software.
  • Knowledge of engineered structure design including laminated wood, direct embed and base plate steel structures.
  • Understanding of 115kV and 230kV overhead electric transmission construction practices.
  • Experience working on highly complex engineering projects.
  • Ability to present information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Participation in industry groups, knowledge of industry developments and their application to PSE.

Job Description

Provides professional engineering service and support in the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and analysis of PSE transmission facilities and assets. Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. Reviews design and documentation to ensure compliance with PSE expectations. Interprets and applies existing guidelines and engineering principles, practices, and theories toward the completion of assignments involving a substantial degree of complexity, with many interrelated elements requiring considerations not previously encountered. Supports the continued development of PSE’s engineering workforce by sharing knowledge with others. Supports emergency response operations when needed.

Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

This position may be subject to random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing.
