PSE's Engineering Operations team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Engineering Specialist position!

Job Description

Puget Sound Energy’s Substation Design and Engineering department is looking for an Engineering Specialist to join our team. This role develops accurate substation electrical layout and assembly CAD drawings and details to support planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance of the energy delivery system. The successful candidate will prepare drawing documents and deliverables for a wide range of technical projects through the application of standard CAD practices and principles.  There will be opportunities to participate on project teams to support the successful completion of projects designed to improve and maintain the energy delivery system. Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.The ideal candidate would have substation electrical layout and assembly experience with 230kV, 115kV and 12.5kV open-air substations and 115kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS).

 

This position may be subject to random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing.

Job Responsibilities
  • Works on projects that are composed of interrelated elements within the CAD designer’s area of focus, and require adaptation of standard practices.
  • Prepares technical CAD drawings and documents.
  • Supports others during review of technical plans, designs, specifications, or standards.
  • Identifies potential areas of design conflicts with assigned work, and initiate corrective action.
  • Trains others on department electric assembly CAD standards and application.
  • Ensures compliance with standards, and design requirements.
  • Maintains scheduling of CAD work assignments supporting Electrical Assembly project needs.
  • Solves problems independently with ability to work around barriers.
  • Self-directs work assignments and communicates effectively with a variety of internal customers.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent technical certificate in design or pre-engineering, or 6-9 years of utility experience.
  • Strong knowledge of subject matter within assigned area of focus, with a basic knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of CAD platform (MicroStation, AutoCAD, or other).
  • Familiarity with ProjectWise and MicroStation a plus.
  • Experience with creating and updating HTML files. 
  • Experience in design, preparation of specifications and technical field work such as “as-built” drawing verification.
  • Experience working with both internal and external customers on projects.
