PSE's Vice President of Operations team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Associate Designer Drafter position!

Job Description

Puget Sound Energy’s Substation Design and Engineering department is looking for an Associate Engineering Specialist to join our team!

Under direct supervision of more experienced staff, this role assists in preparation of civil or electrical engineering plan sets, designs, and specifications for permitting and or construction drawing packages that support the planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance of Puget Sound Energy’s energy delivery system. As a project team member, the successful candidate’s area of responsibility can include:

  • Electrical assembly site plan, elevations, and details
  • Conduit and cable site plan, cross sections, and details
  • Conduit and cable schedules
  • Electrical grounding site plan view, cross sections and details
  • Detailing of electrical equipment and interconnections
  • Site layout and general notes
  • Grading plans, sections and details
  • Drainage plans, elevations and details
  • Fencing plans and details
  • Foundation plans
  • Structural plans
  • Foundation/concrete detailing and design
  • Structural steel detailing
  • Temporary erosion and sediment control plan and details

 

Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

This position may be subject to random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing.

Job Responsibilities

  • Works on projects that are composed of interrelated elements within the CAD designer’s area of focus.
  • Assists in the preparation of technical CAD drawings and documents.
  • Assists others during review of technical plans, designs, specifications, or standards.
  • Conducts office and field research, measurement and verification of equipment data, and updates records.
  • Ensures compliance with standards, and design requirements.
  • Carry out directed work assignments and communicates effectively with a variety of internal customers.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent technical certificate in design or pre-engineering, or 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills. 
  • Proficient with PC software.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience using CAD design platforms or applications (MicroStation, AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks or other).
  • Familiarity with ProjectWise CAD file management system, MicroStation, or Bluebeam PDF file design software a plus.
  • Design/drafting experience involving civil site layout, electrical, mechanical, topographical, commercial building architecture, transportation, or other utility fields are relevant.
  • Experience with creating and updating HTML files. 
  • Utility operational experience.
