Job Description

Functional owner of ADMS, leading on-going maintenance and enhancement activities to fulfill Operations’ requirements. You will be leading a team of technologists and engineers that are developing the technology to enable the implementation of clean energy solutions. In addition, addressing real-time distribution grid operational challenges.


Responsible for the system integrity and reviews requests for configuration changes that affect data flows between the OMS-DMS (Outage Management System – Distribution Management System) that ensure adequate distribution of electricity to meet power demands.  Assists trainers with simulator and scenarios required for the system operation training program.


Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

Job Responsibilities

    • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews and development plans.
    • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve employee, business, customer and safety results.
  • Leads a new Operations Technology team responsible for:
    • Grid Management System Support Team responsible for maintenance of dynamic electric system model. Facilitates resolution of emergent technical issues.
    • Partners/collaborates with other PSE teams to operationalize emerging grid modernization technologies.
    • Engineering support of real time distribution operations to develop contingency plans, analyze and look for options to manage system constraints, provide support to complex equipment issues.
    • Integrating onto project team as a partner leading new grid mod technology; such as, ADMS, Demand Side Management through Virtual Power Plant (VPP)  Load flow, Voltage VAR Optimization (VVO), Fault Location Isolation Service Restoration (FLISR), Distributed Energy Resource Management (DERM).
    • Supporting grid mod tool development, delivery, implementation and maintenance of new technology tools used in grid operations.
    • Creates, reviews and modifies schematics of the network electrical model (NEM) system.
    • Responsible for reviewing and approving requests for configuration changes and assists in the configuration of EO.
    • Provides system administration, including designing and configuring operational rules.
    • Performs high level load flow analysis and estimates related to decisions on switching lines, controlling equipment and devices and customer loads.
    • Handles complex problems related to system issues and data inconsistencies.
  • Ensures system reliability and stability:
    • Proactively monitors and measures system reliability and performance.
    • Ensures compliance with codes, standards as well as design, operations and maintenance requirements.
  • Provides consultation regarding needs assessments, alternatives, system requirements and reliability, implementation cost and schedules and internal/external resource requirements.
  • 24 x 7 in support of emergency response work as requested, including immediate and extended rotation efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering or other appropriate engineering field (a WA State Professional Engineering license may be considered in lieu of a degree).
  • 3+ years of Operations or technical leadership experience
  • Extensive experience in engineering systems analysis and planning
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively and collaborating with a wide range of internal and external customers

Desired Qualifications

  • 5 years prior experience with electrical engineering designs and specifications.
  • Working experience in the following:
    • Network modeling.
    • Geographic Information System (GIS).
    • SAP plant maintenance or other related SAP modules.
    • Mapping electric distribution systems and substation configurations.
    • SCADA/DMS.
  • Working knowledge of electric utility construction standards and operational procedures.
  • Working knowledge of electric utility OMS-DMS and GIS.

The pay range for this position is $78,100.00 - $188,800.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
