Job Description

Puget Sound Energy is looking for a Manager of Network Services to lead our team.

 

The Manager of Network Services is a part of PSE’s IT Infrastructure team which is responsible for the design, and support of the network infrastructure technologies.  These technologies encompass the hardware, software, connectivity, and network services required for the existence, operation, and management of the enterprise IT environment including the end user experience for employees and contractors.

 

The Manager of Network Services will lead a team that is developing new network solutions and strategies to bring the next generation of network platforms to PSE.  As the technology changes the ideal candidate will lead this team to thinking outside of the box on how they can better collaborate with other departments within IT and to develop a team that thinks horizontally as well as vertically across technology domains.

 

We are looking for someone with the experience and background to bring the network services team into a service oriented mindset.  The ideal candidate will have experience in developing forwarding thinking teams with a customer service mindset and leading a team to develop solutions and processes that support our aggressive availability goals.

Job Responsibilities
  • Employee Safety, Development & Team Building - Provides employees with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and builds effective teams:
    • Demonstrates a passion for safety. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety including eliminating at-risk behaviors by conducting safety audits and inspections, eliminating hazards and near misses, and attending safety meetings. No preference which category it goes in, but probably only need to say it once.
    • Sets clear expectations and holds employees accountable for performance as well as goals/targets where applicable.
    • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions. Ensures required training is successfully completed.
    • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results. Accountable to ensure employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements, as well as safety standards.
    • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance review.
    • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve employee, business, customer and safety results.
  • Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of work on basis of meeting established objectives and work methods.  Holds employees accountable for meeting assigned objectives in accordance with expected timelines and budgets.
  • Participates in development of 0-24 month strategic plans for assigned IT segment or area.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the IT discipline. Cultivates, disseminates and enforces policies, procedures and standards for the team.
  • Works closely with customers and colleagues to identify and maximize opportunities to use technology to improve business processes and support critical business strategies, and promote the strategic use of standard and new technologies. 
  • Continually reviews current IT responsibilities against corporate needs to identify areas where technology can resolve current business problems by the evaluation, integration, implementation and support of such technology and by providing and maintaining a documented set of technology standards (hardware and software) for corporate use within a discrete area of responsibility and one or more technology domains.
  • Assesses customer requirements, evaluates possible solutions and presents recommendations to upper management and/or business customers.
  • Advises on selection of technology purchases for new or standard approved technologies within a technical domain.
  • Leverages technical domain knowledge and applies critical thinking to address problems of systems integration and compatibility for discrete areas.
  • Develops and maintains key vendor relationships associated with assigned IT segment or area to ensure service level agreement and deliverables are met.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in network systems. Strong technical knowledge, with hands-on experience managing network environments; knowledge of relevant technologies and tools.
  • Proven experience in managing operations and maintenance of WLAN/LAN/MAN/WAN in multiplatform environments.
  • Thorough understanding of distributed network architecture and design.
  •  Experience managing or leading teams in strategic planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of IT system infrastructure services or other technology areas. 
  •  Strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management
  • Leading multidisciplinary, high-performance work teams/groups.
  • Proficiency in driving process improvement
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, especially with non-technical managers. Solid oral and written communications skills.  An ability to present and discuss technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding.
  • Customer-oriented, a positive, team-oriented attitude, flexibility, an understanding of the business issues driving the need for information technology, and solid work ethic are expected.
Desired Qualifications
  • Comprehensive understanding of LAN/WLAN/WAN/MAN technologies and LAN management and application suites.
  • Experience with Cisco products and solutions.
  • Experience in office and data center build-out which include structure cabling, circuit provisioning, planning, and coordination.
  • A strong background in IT infrastructure and technology deployment.
  • Highly desirable certifications for this position include: Certified Network Professional (CNP), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Voice Professional (CCVP), Cisco IP Telephony Operations Specialist, Cisco IP Telephony Support Specialist, Cisco Storage Networking Support Specialist, Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist.
