PSE's Environmental Services team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Environmental Coordinator position!
Specific details regarding the work arrangements for this position will be discussed in further detail during the interview process.

Job Description

Perform duties associated with the Company’s PCB, Hazardous Waste, Asbestos & Lead, SPCC and Remediation Programs, including: responsibility for sampling, storage and shipment of hazardous materials; assist in the operation of the Waste Management Facility in compliance with its permits, drive and operate equipment related to the operation of the Vactor truck facility. 


Environmental Coordinators require specialized Hazardous Waste Certifications and Training to properly handle, contain, store, sample and generate the necessary paperwork to safely transport transformers, regulators, substation bushings, capacitors and other potentially hazardous oil/gas filled equipment from PSE property for disposal.


Safety is the number one priority for Puget Sound Energy.  This position requires participation in safety and tailgate meetings, performing safety inspections, identification and reporting of safety incidents and unsafe conditions, obtaining and maintaining required licenses and certifications and participation in emergency response drills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining the on-site hazardous waste management and disposal program, which includes maintaining safe storage requirements, preparing drums/containers for wastes, labeling, and shipment preparations required by the DOT, and required facility inspections. 
  • Assist internal and external customers in the handling, storage and disposal of oil containment material and oil filled equipment ensuring environmental compliance.
  • Assist with training and informing line workers and other PSE employees on hazardous spill response. 
  • Verify all equipment shipped out of the facility has all proper documentation, labeling and is secure for travel and from the possibility of leaking during shipment. 
  • Properly complete the PSE Hazardous Material Form when applicable for shipment of damaged equipment or materials generated from the cleanup of spill sites.
  • Track, complete, and maintain survey results, inventory requests, spill records, shipping records, findings, inspections, and/or annual reporting requirements to remain compliant and support audits.
  • Maintain all recycling records for, Fleet Batteries, Anti-Freeze Used Oil, Fuel and oil filters.
  • Work closely with Environmental Program Service Department to assist generation facilities in their efforts to track and maintain environmental compliance, including proactive identification of potential issues and support in implementing corrective actions.
  • Responsible for all PCB sampling of equipment for each facility within their designated region.
  • Quarterly inspections of the Oil Trap Vault, Catch Basins and Ditches.
  • Schedule the cleaning of all vaults, catch basins, ditches of all silt/sand on an annual basis.
  • Available for call-outs to respond to emergencies. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, Forklift Operators Card and First Aid Card. 
  • Must have or obtain within 180 days, certification in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER), Asbestos awareness training, and DOT Hazardous Materials training. 
  • This position requires experience/knowledge of the requirements and regulations associated with PSE’s PCB, Hazardous Waste, Asbestos & Lead, SPCC and Remediation Programs. 
  • Be comfortable with public speaking and providing training in support of those programs. 
  • Must be readily available for call-outs to respond to emergencies.
  • Eligible bidders are Warehouser III (with a minimum of 3 years’ experience), Warehouser IV or Storekeeper or other qualified applicants.

Job Conditions and Physical Effort
The duties and responsibilities are often performed in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions. Must be able to work alone or as a member of an emergency response team where he/she has been trained and qualified. The position involves driving, moderate to heavy lifting, bending, reaching kneeling, twisting, digging and operation of heavy equipment and machinery. The use of protective clothing (including respirators) and/or safety devices may be required.
