PSE's Generation & Natural Gas Storage team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Gas Storage Electrician-JP position!

Job Description

Safety is the number one priority for Puget Sound Energy. This  position requires participation in safety and tailgate meetings, performing safety inspections, identification and reporting of safety incidents and unsafe conditions, obtaining and maintaining required licenses and certifications and participation in emergency response drills. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled journey-level work in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment, apparatus and fixtures used at the Jackson Prairie gas storage facility.
  • Inspect, maintain, repair and overhaul electromechanical and solid state electrical equipment, using a variety of electrical test equipment, meters, powered and non-powered tools and equipment.
  • Install new electrical and electronic equipment and electrical wiring according to the National Electrical Code, WAC and RCW Regulations, and company electrical standards.
  • Assists with the training and development of Gas Storage personnel.
  • Maintain and repair electrical and electronic systems for Project facilities and equipment.
  • Work safely and cooperatively with co-workers and the public.
  • Lead a work party in performing maintenance or repair work.
  • Other related incidental work as needed.
  • Comply with and practice proper equipment clearance procedures.
  • Perform all work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Performs the duties of a Gas Storage Electrician and Operator
  • Responsible for station lockout/tagout procedures as mandated by Company policy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicant should have knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Additionally, this position requires knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Applicant must be familiar with theory of operation and use of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) units and other computer-based equipment including installing, programming, and troubleshooting PLC-based equipment.
  • Must have completed high school or equivalent degree.
  • Completion of a recognized vocational education program in electrical, industrial electrical, or industrial training –OR- completion of a recognized Electrical Apprenticeship Program and three out of the last five years’ journey-level experience as an electrician in the industrial maintenance field.
  • Candidates will be required to pass an aptitude test in order to be placed in the position.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with the necessary endorsements.
  • This position requires the applicant to have and maintain a current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), including the necessary endorsements and without air brake restriction. Successful applicants will have 30 days to meet this requirement.
  • Must possess an EL-01 Washington State General Journeyman Electrical License.
  • First Aid, CPR and forklift certifications required prior to the completion of probation with maintenance thereafter.

Prior to performing all aspects of the position unobserved, the applicant must become fully qualified in all required Operator Qualification (OQ) tasks as defined in PSE’s Operator Qualification Plan, and must remain current in all Operator Qualifications required for the position.

Job Conditions and Physical Efforts:

  • The Gas Storage Electrician works independently and with little direction.
  • Applicant will also work in a team atmosphere where establishing and maintaining a cooperative and effective work relationship is important.
  • Must have ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Requires climbing, standing, bending and lifting heavy objects in awkward and confined spaces using proper lifting and rigging techniques.
  • Subject to exposure to fumes, dust and high levels of vibration.
  • Subject to exposure to high noise levels requiring ear protection.
  • Subject to working near moving parts of heavy machinery and high voltage equipment where the use of appropriate protective/safety equipment is required.
  • Subject to working at heights and in adverse weather conditions.
  • Work includes indoor and outdoor environment.
  • May be subject to after duty call-outs.
