Job Description
Puget Sound Energy’s Business Energy Management (BEM) Department is looking for an Energy Management Engineer to evaluate and recommend energy efficiency projects with our commercial and industrial customers. You will be assessing a wide-variety of end-uses in commercial, industrial and/or institutional facilities that may have substantial technical complexity.
Projects include the following actions: meet with customers’ onsite to market and explain BEM programs, verify customer eligibility, understand current facility system operations, provide on-site technical support, create project specific energy savings analysis and documents for internal approval, verify and document new system operations, and close out projects with the incentive payment to the customer.
You will work closely with customers to develop projects that produce sustainable energy savings. This may include specific activities such as evaluating energy consumption from meter data, assisting with energy audits, implementing sub-metering and system trend-logging. You will recommend measures for improving energy efficiency of equipment either through operations, maintenance or replacement, helping customers to engage and train staff, and working with customers to evaluate resulting changes to equipment loads. You will also work to support the BEM team by developing and delivering programs for customers, and contributing to the on-going development of program support materials including templates, analysis calculators, and reference documents.
The ideal candidate will have experience with HVAC systems in various building types (design, commissioning, operating) combined with high-level program management experience. Industrial experience will be helpful as we are proactively pursuing opportunities in the industrial sector. You should be capable of understanding proper operation of building systems and be familiar with common energy consuming equipment in industrial sector, communicate with all levels of a customers' organization, and effectively transfer skills and knowledge to others. You will be expected to provide exceptional customer experience by managing expectations and next steps. You will implement projects and programs while ensuring compliance of all tariffs and financial procedures, and develop new and revised department policy proposals to increase effectiveness of programs and services. You will successfully and professionally market our energy efficiency programs to eligible customers and various organizations within the commercial and industrial sector, as well as maintain productive contractor relationships to ensure ongoing successful project development and follow-through. You will be looked upon to provide technical expertise to others within the Company and externally.

Job Responsibilities
- Provides technical and project management functions to customer projects to produce sustainable energy savings by performing or overseeing energy audits of building energy systems including: review of facility energy-usage patterns; detailed analyses of complex efficiency measures including energy use modeling; the applicability and recommendations of measures for achieving greater energy efficiency of measures to customer facilities and operations; final inspection of completed projects; and end-use monitoring of electrical loads with data analysis.
- Provides exceptional customer service by managing customer expectations by clearly communicating status and next steps.
- Implements, and assists with the analysis and development of market-centric programs and related tariffs to produce sustainable energy savings more effectively by identifying barriers and developing solutions.
- Implements projects and programs while ensuring compliance of all financial procedures; assists in the development of new and revised department policy proposals to increase effectiveness of programs and services.
- Markets efficiency programs to eligible customers and various organizations.
- Maintains positive contractor relationship to ensure positive project development and follow-through.
- Consults with others on technical, regulatory policy and financial analyses.
- Monitors the development and market acceptability of new energy technologies.
- Supports emergency response work as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field.
- Extensive experience in energy efficiency project planning, design, specification review (typically achieved after 3 or more years practice as a degreed engineer). Years of acquired experience is provided as a guide and alone does not constitute readiness for job level as individual’s skill acquisition rates can vary significantly.
- Demonstrated project and/or program management skills managing energy efficiency projects.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- Ability to work effectively and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external customers.
Desired Qualifications
- Energy auditing and project development experience.
- Industrial energy management experience.
- Experience in aspects of program development, including understanding both internal and external processes necessary to market, sell, deliver, verify and track program activity.
- Experience working with federal government customers.
- Energy service performance contracting experience.
- Customer service experience.
- Utility industry experience.

The pay range for this position is $79,200.00 - $131,700.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
