Job Description

Join our Data Services team, and help us build our new data analytics community. We are looking for a data-savvy analyst with Data Governance experience to develop and implement effective, best-practice approaches to improving and sustaining our data landscape. Our team is responsible for exploring new data science and data management technologies, and developing proactive collection, measurement, monitoring, profiling and reporting methodologies to support PSE operations and Beyond Zero Carbon reduction initiatives. We also use cutting edge tools such as Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog, Axon Data Governance and Informatica Data Quality analytical tools to analyze and manage digital media, web, search, structured data and unstructured information.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide strong SQL development experience and ability to easily navigate through SQL Server or Oracle DBMS for structured data
  • Support the development of detailed and effective Data Governance capabilities, and work with business colleagues to identify, prioritize and execute data governance models and mitigation processes
  • Be familiar with PowerBI and Python reporting tools
  • Help PSE to optimize user experience through information and data governance
  • Capture, interpret and present data and insights to support data governance and enablement strategies, solve business challenges, and drive efficiencies in technical and business performance
  • Help build our analytics capabilities to support our digital transformation, risk management and data enablement efforts for our keys systems such as SAP and OpenText
  • Improve or create data management workflow and data flow diagrams and related processes
  • Partner with our external vendors, our business teams and internal stakeholders to define, capture, develop and deliver on core business metrics and KPIs that support key requirements for our company's initiatives and objectives, including related analysis and planning, reporting and ongoing project support across our organization.
  • Work closely with the Manager of Data Services to engage technical and business stakeholders to solve data and information challenges
  • Partner with other data and business analysts to proactive governance processes including modeling and visualization efforts
  • Work closely with business colleagues, Records and Information Management and Data Management team members to ensure the accuracy of fact and dimensional data related to channels, sources of acquisition, frequency, transactions and significance testing
  • Generates ad hoc reports and test datasets or report information for end-users using system tools and database or data warehouse queries and scripts

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years IT experience, including several years of systems development experience in the design and development of department-wide or enterprise-wide applications.
  • Detailed understanding and 5+ years programming languages (specialized technical requirements as shown in attachment) and strong knowledge of office applications (e.g. Microsoft Office).
  • Possesses full technical knowledge of phases of software development life cycle.
  • Experience with at least two full life cycle implementations of a new application or purchased application.
  • Extensive knowledge of multiple languages, i.e (specialized technical requirements as shown in attachment) environment, active business processes, business areas, as well as industry.
  • Knowledge of systems and/or business analysis design concepts. Demonstrated proficiency in the applied use of systems and process analysis tools. Full system life cycle experience, including development lifecycle methodologies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Ability to facilitate interactive design and functional specification sessions.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal skills with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms. Excellent technical writing and system documentation skills.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving, and conceptual skills. 
  • Demonstrated project management skills for moderate sized projects. 
  • Must be a “team player” able to work with management in developing and implementing new processes and enabling systems.  Able to work with end user groups to define application needs and identify feasible solutions. 
  • Proactive, self-motivated with the ability to motivate others and a customer-focused service attitude.
  • Good organizational skills, with the ability to meet objectives and effectively multi-task.
  • Ability to work with multiple levels of the organization, both technical and non-technical.

Desired Qualifications

  • Two years of data governance modeling and measurement skills including data validation processes, and
  • An analytical approach to problem-solving, coupled with the ability to conceptualize systems.
  • Experience with and ability to easily navigate through either SQL Server or Oracle DBMS.
  • Understanding of MDM strategies and concepts, application, and impact to data analytics efforts. Proven experience and success with reference data modeling, ontologies and taxonomies, and metadata management
  • Demonstrated ability to develop tool sets and approaches for data management processes as well as educate others on how to apply these processes
