Job Description

It’s an exciting time to join Puget Sound Energy’s (PSE) Client Engineering team as we are changing the way our employees in the office and in the field receive their client services.  We are building the foundation for an “any device, anyplace, anytime” user experience while providing increased device choice to our employees.  We’ll be leveraging virtual infrastructure / tools to accomplish some of these capabilities.  We continue to invest in mobility as a platform for a number of our business channels.  We also intend to transition to modern management for our Windows systems while increasing device of choice, where applicable.

To help deliver these services, we are looking for an advanced Client Engineer with a deep knowledge of modern end user computing solutions and capabilities including virtual and mobile technologies.  The ideal candidate will help set direction and guidance on end user experiences and capabilities while building technology roadmaps for the services owned by the team.

As a Senior IT Advisor, you will lead the design and implementation of the experience that unleashes our end users’ productivity with increased flexibility regardless of location.  You will be empowered to own and deliver client-focused technologies that enable our business users to be agile and flexible in terms of the way they work.  You will also educate and develop the technical skills of the immediate and complementary teams for the aligned services.

Job Responsibilities

  • Understands intuitively and holistically the most complex system designs and performance in unstable/dynamic or crisis situations based on broad and deep applied professional experience in a primary team with broad exposure to multiple segments to ensure effective technology integration. 
  • Sets standards across technology domains.
  • Researches, analyzes, designs, and proposes solutions that are appropriate for the business and technology strategies, are in alignment with IT’s reference architecture, and that capitalize on the principles of technology rationalization and reuse to ensure efficient usage of PSE’s IT dollars. 
  • Serves as top level technologist responsible for design and development of client-facing, highly complex systems. 
  • Serves as highest-level technical resource for highly complex enterprise wide technologies.  Leads complex troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis. 
  • Works with various vendors to maintain compliance regarding firmware, service packs, security patches, etc to ensure the maximum performance, security, and availability of the systems. 
  • Demonstrates the application of technology to business needs and detailed understanding of multiple application and infrastructure architectures. 
  • Evaluates, selects, integrates, and implements new system architectures, systems, tools, and techniques 
  • Evaluates and advises on selection of technology purchases related to large scale processing, data storage, and application platforms. 
  • Defines and promotes standards, guidelines, and policies for the use and integration of technology. 
  • Applies high skill with commands, utilities, and understands advanced aspects in the administration of systems. 
  • Leads capacity planning, system installations, upgrades, and other maintenance activities for enterprise and departmental systems. 
  • Reviews the environment and proactively implements changes to reduce problems and work stoppage. 
  • Defines key performance indicators and thresholds for systems.  Identifies strategic initiatives and plans to improve KPIs. 
  • Oversees the updating/creation of system documentation which affects multiple teams. 
  • Manages or consults on large projects to ensure proper allocation of resources, budgets, and high client satisfaction. 
  • Highly skilled in conflict management and effectively managing the most complex relationships with business partners, vendors, professional peers, and other team members. 
  • Works with IT personnel across all segments at senior levels. 
  • Estimates resources and costs for new ventures or very large projects. 
  • Develops technical roadmaps aligned to architectural principles / requirements
  • Operates independently and often leads others. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of experience in related field, or combination of specialized training or experience and twelve years of directly relevant experience.
  • 6 years of experience working and developing in distributed computing technologies.
  • 2 years of experience in system design, programming and troubleshooting with relational databases (e.g., Oracle and SQL Server)..
  • Master level experience working with IT LAN/WAN network applications/procedures and processes.
  • Master level knowledge of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP), and GUI interfaces.
  • Master level knowledge of Windows OS commands, software upgrades, and with network routing and bridging protocols.
  • Proficient in the understanding and troubleshooting of the Windows family of operating systems to include five (5) of the following nine (9) core competencies: AD, DHCP, FTP, Powershell, Email workflow, SCCM, SCOM, Win OS, DNS, and disaster recovery/business continuity.
  • Master level knowledge of performance monitors and debugger tools.
  • Master level experience with participating in projects in a cross-functional environment.
  • Master level experience supporting Windows operating systems deploying enterprise-wide applications.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Self-driven, able to juggle many tasks under tight deadlines, and be comfortable bringing ideas to the table.
  • Strong leadership, documentation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Broad scope of experience within a large information systems environment.
  • Experience with a complete project cycle from inception to completion.
  • Experience as a project leader of sub-projects of enterprise-level initiatives.
  • Experience with Internet technologies including experience with HTML, XML and Java.
  • Analysis and design experience for data warehouse and data mart strategies.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master knowledge on current and emerging end user computing solutions, platforms, technologies, and industry/business best practices and trends
  • Master experience with VMware Workspace One, Identity Manager, App Stacks and other relevant services including organizational migrations to these services
  • Master experience with collaboration (i.e. Cisco Webex / Teams, Microsoft Teams, etc)
  • Professional-level certification on at least one EMM platform (i.e. AirWatch, Avalanche, SOTI, VeriFone VHQ, Afaria, etc.) and a broad understanding of design and configuration best practices.  
  • ITIL v4 training or equivalent hands on experience
  • Proficient working in an Agile / iterative environment
