PSE's Security, Risk and Compliance team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Physical Security Specialist position!

Job Description

The Physical Security Specialist is responsible for conducting physical security Threat and Vulnerability Assessments (TVA). Reviews facility designs for the deployment of appropriate security systems to mitigate risk and criminal activity. Conducts employee security awareness training.


Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for company physical security programs.
  • Conducts comprehensive Threat and Vulnerability Assessments (TVA) of PSE infrastructure on a predetermined schedule, and shares the results/recommendations with business owners.
  • Track TVA physical security recommendations, and follow-up with business owners to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Develops and delivers company wide Security Awareness Training, to include new employee training (NEO).
  • Develops and maintains company physical security standards and procedures.
  • Partners with internal business owners to continually improve detection of security related issues and preventative processes and controls.
  • Reviews site construction plans to ensure that physical security systems and access control technologies are properly incorporated into all the plans, and ensures all security measures comply with PSE Physical Security Protection Standards.
  • Visits PSE sites to inspect buildings and grounds ensuring that sufficient and appropriate physical security technologies are installed and deployed at existing and new facilities, in compliance with plans, scope documentation, and regulations.
  • Conducts quarterly checks of the CCTV system to ensure cameras are in operating condition and are correctly positioned.
  • Develops/updates Site Security Plans for all applicable sites.
  • Conducts and/or coordinates Red Team penetration testing at sites.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations for various levels of access to PSE facilities and specific rooms based on role and duties performed.
  • Reviews and analyzes current and proposed physical security technologies to ensure that the most up to date technologies are incorporated into the design of new and rebuilt facilities.
  • Keeps management informed on current technologies and industry trends for the best use of camera system, fencing, security lighting, and intrusion detection investments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in a physical security environment with knowledge of camera, intrusion detection, and access control systems
  • 3 years of experience of conducting physical security assessments
  • 3 years of experience in the design of physical security systems
  • Knowledge of CPTED principals
  • Understanding of “Defense in Depth” methodology in regards to physical security systems design
  • Experience coordinating security awareness and crime prevention programs
  • Ability to speak in public and provide training to small and large audiences
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks, good time management, problem prevention and solving skills
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports
  • PSP certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 1 year of employment
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • CPP certification
  • Knowledge of the utility industry
