PSE's IT Project Management Office team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open IT Test Engineer position!
Specific details regarding the work arrangements for this position will be discussed in further detail during the interview process.

Job Description

  • Leverages understanding in software development and engineering practices, quality development and test discipline best practices, understanding of architecture, design, code, integration, environments, test data and test automation and/or performance engineering or testing, in order to not only identify and facilitate resolution of defects, but to strive to identify them earlier in the lifecycle, collaborating with development to ‘build quality” into the product.
  • Develops, maintains, and executes software test strategies and test plans, with some guidance from Sr. Test Engineers.  Designs manual and automated functional and/or performance tests. Maintains documentation of test results to assist in debugging and modification of software.
  • Analyzes test results to ensure functionality meets requirements/acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborates with development engineers to improve code coverage, code quality, design, unit, system, integration, build verification and regression tests; troubleshoot and resolve defects.
  • Provides visibility into software quality and performance via test reports, dashboards, metrics, DevOps and development quality tools, application performance management tools and monitoring and logging tools/compilers, in order to understand application quality, risks and release readiness.
  • Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.
  • Demonstrates commitment to conduct business honestly, ethically and consistent with our core values and Code of Conduct.  Ensures duties are performed in accordance with all regulatory compliance obligations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains and executes test stategies and plans for medium size/complexity projects, spanning multiple teams/departments, techologies and platforms.
  • Fulfill test lead role for projects, ensuring successful project delivery.
  • Collaborates actively with business and IT development teams to provide test estimates, milestones, quality and test deliverables, establish and manage budget, establish project schedule, define acceptance criteria, identify and manage risks and issues, support development/test cycles and project release activities.
  • Influence Quality throughout the application life cycle, applying test discipline and engineering best practices and principles (agile, CI/CD, DevOps, performance engineering, automation, cloud, mobile, microservice architectures) to not only improve quality and performance, but to drive towards building quality into the development process, through collaboration with development teams.
  • Translate system requirements and specifications into test requirements and scripts to ensure adequate test coverage. Collaborate with product and development teams to integrate and prioritize testing throughout lifecycle, with-in sprints or traditional test phases.
  • Promote Quality visualization, risk management and continuous improvement by configuring Development, DevOps, APM, monitoring and logging and Test tools to make code, test and performance quality and coverage visible through dashboards, error logs, test status reports and metrics.
  • Identify and with input from Sr. Test Engineers and SDETS, exploit automation opportunities.  Develop and maintain test automation scripts to support continuous test and regression test strategies.
  • Provides leadership towards the development and adoption of enterprise quality standards, processes, tools and methodologies to ensure cost-efficient, timely and effective services that support IT strategies.
  • Test applications and infrastructure across multiple platforms and technology stacks (example: cloud, mobile, web, SAP, microservices, etc.).
  • Identifies test environment requirements, including data sources (extraction, creation, manipulation), files and tables.
  • Configures, implements, maintains and utilizes PSE standard and industry driven test tools, processes and methodologies to improve test capabilities and throughput.
  • Participates in design and specification reviews, influencing testability of the architecture, while using this information to design test strategies and test automation to improve quality earlier in the lifecycle.
  • Maintains knowledge of assigned functional area in environment, active business processes, business areas, and industry.
  • Promotes Test productivity using automation, tools and accelerators, while promoting a culture of quality and other best practices throughout the organization.
  • Actively collaborates with development and test team members in support of improving quality of design, requirements, code, infrastructure, configuration, and CI/CD pipelines through test and engineering practices and processes.
  • Provides technical engineering, business acumen and test leadership on assigned projects and teams (employee, contract, system integratior).
  • Acts as a champion for testing standards and methodology governance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


As part of the IT Workforce Architecture Project, assigned level P2.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two year degree or certification in a technology-related field or equivalent combination of education, work experience or relevant military experience, and at least 1 year of experience in related field.
  • 1+ years of directly relevant experience in Test Engineering, Software Quality Assurance or Quality Engineering, including several years of systems and integration testing experience.
  • 1+ years’ experience with Test and Defect Management and/or Performance Management tools.
  • 1+ years’ experience with test automation frameworks, design and development of automated functional and/or performance test scripts.
  • Proven experience with grey box testing techniques, and a solid understanding of and experience with software engineering and testing methodologies, techniques and approaches.
  • Experience working with agile methodologies, applying principles and concepts to improve efficiency, productivity and quality.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in more than one technical area.
  • Basic understanding and/or experience with at least two foundational areas: SAP, Cloud, Mobile, DevOps, CI/CD, test automation frameworks, continuous testing (automation), performance engineering, performance testing.
  • Detail-oriented and sensitive to how the details work within a whole system.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Development, QA and Test Engineering methodologies and how to adapt them to the specific needs of PSE’s organization and products.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal skills with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms. Good technical writing and system documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage small and medium sized projects: organized, independent, and results-oriented.
  • Ability to facilitate interactive Quality focused activities – test strategy, test design, code coverage, code quality, triage meetings, test sessions.
  • Proactive, self-motivated with the ability to motivate others and a focus on customer service and user experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to meet objectives and effectively multi-task.

  • 1+ years experience working with SAP/ SAP S/4 HANA - For Utilities (IS-U), CRM, ECC, BW, MCF.
  • Experience with Tricentis suite of products (qTest, Live Compare, Tosca, NeoLoad, Analytics).
  • Experience working with agile methodologies, applying principles and concepts to improve efficiency, productivity and quality.
