Job Description

Puget Sound Energy's business Energy Management (BEM) Department is looking for an Energy Management Engineer to support the industrial energy management program. You will be assessing a wide-variety of industrial facilities that may have substantial technical complexity. You should have experience in industrial energy program or projects that focus on O&M savings and strategic energy management (SEM) besides capitol improvement projects.


You will work closely with customers to develop projects that produce sustainable energy savings. This may include specific activities such as evaluating energy consumption from meter data, collecting data through sub-metering and system trend-logging, and performing energy assessments. You will recommend measures for improving energy efficiency either through changes in operations and maintenance (O&M), and/or system and equipment replacement. You will help customers to engage and train staff, and work with customers to implement strategic energy management practices. You will also work to support the BEM team by developing and delivering programs for customers, and contributing to an on-going development of program support materials including templates, analysis calculations, and reference documents. 


Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

Job Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial systems such as compressed air systems, industrial refrigeration, industrial HVAC systems, and wastewater treatment facilities. You should be capable of understanding proper operation of building systems and be familiar with common energy consuming equipment in industrial sector, communicate with all levels of a customers' organization, and effectively transfer skills and knowledge to others.  You should have experience in regression modeling to predict energy consumptions in industrial facilities. You will be expected to provide trainings and workshops, and provide coaching to industrial customers to support them in their strategic energy management activities.  You will implement projects and programs while ensuring compliance of all tariffs and financial procedures, and develop new and revised department policy proposals to increase effectiveness of programs and services. You will successfully and professionally market our energy efficiency programs to eligible customers and various organizations in the industrial sector, as well as maintain productive contractor relationships to ensure ongoing successful project development and follow-through.  You will be looked upon to provide technical expertise to others within the Company and externally.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field.
  • Extensive experience in energy efficiency project planning, design, specification review (typically achieved after 3 or more years practice as a degreed engineer). Years of acquired experience is provided as a guide and alone does not constitute readiness for job level as individual’s skill acquisition rates can vary significantly.
  • Demonstrated project and/or program management skills managing energy efficiency projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external customers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Industrial energy assessment and project development experience
  • Industrial energy management experience, including system optimization and strategic energy management practices
  • Regression analysis and whole facility M&V methodology
  • Customer service experience
  • Utility industry experience
