Puget Sound Energy’s Claims Department has a rare and great opportunity for an experienced Bodily Injury & Litigation Specialist to join our team. This is fully remote position that requires being in our service territory to attend legal matters as well as complete field investigations. We are looking for someone with experience in handling bodily injury claims and litigated matters. The position handles soft tissue & catastrophic injuries, catastrophic property damages in litigation, as well as some vehicle property damages to others. Must have the ability to evaluate injury claims and see them through resolution.

Job Responsibilities

  • Investigates, evaluates and resolves all third party bodily injury and motor vehicle property damage claims; including recorded statements, scene investigations, determines liability, establishes damages, reports status and negotiates to settlement.
  • Review claim including loss report, medical records and bills, scene of accident, property damages, injury, and any aggravating factors. 
  • ISO, Medicare, SIU reporting as required.
  • Use strong customer service skills to negotiate with customers, attorneys, claimants to help them through their claim process.
  • Work closely with defense counsel to respond to interrogatories, interview, and prepare internal stakeholders for depositions as well a 30 (b) 6 designees. 
  • Review all discovery documents as received.
  • Attend mediations, depositions, arbitrations, and trials as needed in person or virtually.
  • May be required to testify on behalf of the company in court proceedings.
  • Job requires an “on-call 24/7” after hours call out rotation to investigate high exposure losses including gas explosions, fatalities, fires, or as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains network with operations personnel, systems operations, service providers, and defense counsel. 
  • Use data and analytics to problem solve and contribute to team goals by sharing ideas and opinions.
  • Flexibility to work independently as well as part of a team in person and virtually.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years experience in multi-line claims adjusting or utility claims adjusting.
  • Associate in Claims (AIC) designation and/or independent adjuster’s license (experience in lieu of professional designations may be considered).
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of civil justice system.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of insurance subrogation practices, company’s operating tariffs, Washington State statutes and administrative regulations.
  • High level of interpersonal skills (verbal and written), including technical writing.
  • A valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Must be willing to work more than 8 hours a day as needed, and be on call for emergencies on a 24 hour basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-stress conditions, must be highly motivated, and disciplined and a self-starter.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills.

The pay range for this position is $73,900.00 - $122,900.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
