PSE's Energy Supply Merchant team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Supervisor Real-Time Trading position!

Job Description

Manages the real-time (next hour) power portfolios for PSE, while supervising and mentoring other Energy Traders active in Real Time markets. Makes independent economic decisions surrounding PSE’s assets, executes wholesale commodity natural gas and power purchases and sales transactions to manage these assets, and acquires or releases transmission and/or gas transportation to balance the system.

 

Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

Job Responsibilities

  • Employee Safety, Development & Team Building - Providing employees with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
    • Demonstrates a passion for safety. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety including eliminating at-risk behaviors by conducting safety audits and inspections, eliminating hazards and near misses, and attending safety meetings.
    • Sets clear expectations and holds employees accountable for performance as well as safety goals/targets where applicable.
    • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions. Ensures required training is successfully completed.
    • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
    • Accountable to ensure employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements, as well as safety standards.
    • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
    • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve employee, business, customer and safety results.
  • Supervises real-time traders who are responsible for system reliability, in a cost-effective manner through the dispatch of generating units and prudent wholesale commodity transactions.
  • Ensures balanced generation dispatch and wholesale market purchases relative to load requirements.
  • Represents the company externally on issues pertaining to reliability, generation dispatch, and reserve requirements.
  • Analyzes PSE’s real-time power positions and make recommendations on optimizing the value of PSE’s assets.
  • Collaborates with long-term resource and planning groups inside PSE to review asset acquisitions.
  • Keeps abreast of current industry market trends and developments and updates management of any relevant changes.
  • Represents PSE in regional and national organizations and forums.
  • Helps develop goals and set objectives, as well as relay the corporate vision to team members.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree with a technical or commercial focus from an accredited 4- year college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in power and/or natural gas trading.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting principals.
  • Minimum of four years experience in energy trading or operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to interact with all levels of a corporation.

Desired Qualifications

  • Specific experience in west-coast energy markets.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work effectively without direct supervision in a fast paced, multi-tasking, team environment.
  • Advanced spreadsheet and database computer skills.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to effectively present analyses in a public forum.
  • Prior supervisory experience.

The pay range for this position is $80,800.00 - $195,400.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
