Job Description

Puget Sound Energy (PSE), the largest energy utility in Washington, is seeking to fill a Sr. IT Architect position focused on the electric utility capability ecosystem, (Grid Modernization, ADMS, EMS).  This position is part of the Enterprise Technology Solutions-Architecture team within IT, and provides both subject matter expertise and leader roles in owning the capability-technology roadmap that enables PSE to achieve its’ service optimization and customer objectives. 

Utility grid modernization requires insightful conversations and synchronized planning across broad stakeholder groups, including internal and external parties.  This dynamic role is positioned on the forefront of the electric utility industry, and provides an exciting opportunity to form learning partnerships with peer utilities, technology-vendors, and utility consultancies.

Job Responsibilities
  • Works in partnership with PSE management stakeholders to continually develop and refine the business/IT roadmap and capability planning that achieves company energy objectives.
  • Serves as a member of PSE’s Grid Modernization Committee to research, prioritize, and optimize the realization of advanced energy functions.  E.g. DERM, FLISR, Demand Response
  • Develops and presents business cases and accompanying financial models that allow management stakeholders to assess options and set direction.
  • Collaborate with PSE stakeholders to identify operating objectives and establish solution evaluation criteria for vendor and product selections.
  • Collaborates with fellow Architects and other IT stakeholders to plan, inform, and align around capability planning.
  • Consults with internal stakeholders to evaluate and identify where organizational change may need to accompany grid modernization capabilities and operations.
  • Continuously validates and expands electric utility knowledge through on-going interactions with peer utilities and system solution providers.
  • Effectively build influential partnering relationships up, down, and across the PSE organization.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS degree in EE, Computer Science, IS, or job related fields.
  • Experience working in IT Architecture and utility/energy consulting or solution providers of electric utility systems.
  • Experience working with energy systems (EMS, ADMS, DERMS), their network communications, and integration within the enterprise landscape.
  • Experience working with system integrators from the roles of architecture and oversight.
  • Strong experience in multiple technology domains, (application, infrastructure, security, integration), and a broad understanding of how technology integrates and interacts at the enterprise level.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written communication skills in both technical and business language.
  • Possess the ability to extract and analyze business and technical strategies and report out in a focused manner.
  • Strong leadership and team building skills.  Possess the ability to lead collaborative teams and drive focused outcomes.
Desired Qualifications
  • MS degree in EE, Computer Science, IS, or job related fields.
  • 10+ years’ experience working with technology architecture and design in a utility or complex enterprise environment.
  • 5+ years’ experience in utility/energy consulting or solution providers of electric utility systems.
