PSE's Generation & Transmission Development team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Sr Engineer position!

Job Description

Puget Sound Energys Energy Delivery Group is looking for a Senior Engineer to join our team!


This position supports the Generation & Transmission Development Group. The ideal candidate manages transmission and interconnection analyses, studies, and requests in support of generation resource development to comply with the Clean Energy Transformation Act. The engineer will perform power flow studies, assess available transmission on PSE and BPA systems, manage transmission requests for BPA Cluster Studies, and guide strategy for optimizing transmission resources in PSE’s portfolio. Managing the submissions and technical reviews of Feasibility Studies, System Impact Studies, Facility Studies, and Large Generation Interconnection Agreements are also a key responsibility for this position. This Engineer will work on the development of greenfield transmission and major transmission upgrades that will add regional transmission capacity. 


Job Responsibilities
  • Evaluates available transmission and interconnection capacity/cost/timing for candidate generation projects
  • Researches and evaluates publicly available information on Transmission Providers OASIS websites 
  • Submits and manages transmission and interconnection requests and studies
  • Reviews and interprets Feasibility Studies, System Impact Studies, and Facility Studies
  • Supports develoment of Large Generation Interconnection Agreements for new generation projects
  • Develops and implements strategies to optimize PSE's transmission portfolio for co-locating generation resources
  • Provides subject matter expertise on FERC Open Access Transmission Tariffs and associated Business Practices
  • Tracks regulatory policies and efforts to expand regional transmission capacity
  • Provide technical support for project development and construction
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field.
  • Substantial experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating and scheduling (typically achieved after 8 or more years practice as a degreed engineer). 
  • Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Western Interconnection, BPA and Northwest energy policy issues, BPA transmission policies
  • Understanding of the Pacific Northwest Regional transmission system
  • Understanding of merchant transmission portfolio in the context of renewable resource scheduling and transmission optimization  
  • Working knowledge of balancing authority and transmission system operations
  • Experience using PowerWorld powerflow software
  • Possession of a Professional Engineering license
  • Knowledge of engineering economics and utility accounting practices
  • Experience working on complex engineering projects
