PSE's Energy Supply Merchant team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Sr Energy Trader position!

Job Description

Manages the real-time (next hour) power portfolios for PSE.  The ideal candidate will be able to make independent economic decisions surrounding PSE’s assets, execute wholesale commodity power purchases and sales transactions to manage these assets and acquire or release transmission to balance the system.

 

Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse generation portfolio including hydro, thermal and wind generation assets.
  • Responsible for system reliability in a cost-effective manner through the dispatch of generating units and prudent wholesale commodity transactions.
  • Ensures balanced generation dispatch and wholesale market purchases relative to load requirements.
  • Performs analysis and assess physical power markets, as well as, regional transmission constraints.
  • Acquires applicable transmission and schedules power transactions.
  • Coordinates energy delivery and supply efforts with Load Office.
  • Assists in the training of power trading staff.
  • Keeps abreast of current industry market trends and developments and updates management of any relevant changes.
  • Demonstrates a passion for Employee Safety, Development & Team Building.
  • Adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements, as well as safety standards. 
  • Helps develop goals and set objectives, as well as relay the corporate vision to team members.
  • This is a shift position and is a fundamental component of PSE’S 24/7 operation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree with a technical or commercial focus from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • 4 years experience in energy trading, derivatives, marketing or bulk electric and gas system management.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in power and/or natural gas trading including experience with natural gas storage optimization, physical/financial gas trading fundamentals, physical/financial power trading dynamics including power generation characteristics of hydro, coal, wind and gas fired generation.
  • Advance knowledge of financial and accounting principals and working knowledge of WSPP, ISDA, GISB and NAESB agreements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to interact at all levels of the corporation.
  • Experience in west-coast energy markets, and specific knowledge of Pacific Northwest regional issues.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proven record of accomplishment in power and/or natural gas trading including experience with, physical/financial power trading dynamics including power generation characteristics of hydro, coal, wind and gas fired generation.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work effectively without direct supervision in a fast paced, multi-tasking, team environment.
  • Advanced spreadsheet and database computer skills.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and conflict resolution skills.
  • EIM and CAISO or other RTO/ISO experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to interact at all levels of the corporation.
