PSE's Planning team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Modelling Tools Engineer - Engineer I position!
Specific details regarding the work arrangements for this position will be discussed in further detail during the interview process.

Job Description

The Modelling Tools Engineer in this position will have an emphasis on improving the use of tools and software to help the study of capacity and operating performance of the distribution system in line with future integration of smart grid devices and systems, including distribution energy resources (DER), volt/var optimization (VVO), advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), distribution automation (DA).

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support to others in the Planning department in the maintenance, upgrades, and training of features and data for department software tools such as Synergi, LoadSEER, and other programs.
  • Performs system analysis using a variety of those software tools including Synergi, LoadSEER and other tools modeling and analysis of the Electric Power System.
  • Interprets and/or modifies available guidelines for application to existing problems or processes..
  • Coordinates with Planning Teams to ensure all issues are addressed holistically.
  • Applies engineering principles, practices, and theories as well as evaluating new emerging technologies that support grid modernization and clean energy goals.
  • Provides a detailed design review of internal or external technical documents.
  • Ensures compliance with codes, standards, and design, operation, and maintenance requirements.
  • Identifies potential areas of weakness with assigned work, and initiate corrective action.
  • Documents and shares work with others to strengthen the depth and breadth of skills within PSE’s engineering workforce.
  • Communicates solutions to personnel possessing a wide variety of educational and employment backgrounds, including in public forums in both verbal and written forms.
  • Ensures that problem solutions are tailored to PSE’s business environment.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • May help in coordinating the work of junior engineers, engineering assistants, field technicians, and others who assist on specific projects. (This includes contractor/consultants).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering discipline.
  • Entry level to 3 years of experience in engineering design, preparation of specifications, technical field work, or system studies.  Other prior non-engineering work experience may be considered for individuals at this level.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Possession of or ability to acquire an EIT certificate.
  • Experience using an electrical analysis program such as LoadSEER, SynerGi, CYME, or other programs.
  • Knowledge of engineering economics, analysis, and utility accounting practices.
  • Work or internship experience in utility engineering or related fields.
