PSE's IT Architecture team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open IT Security & Risk Architect position!

Job Description

Puget Sound Energy (PSE), the largest energy utility in Washington, is seeking to fill an IT Architect position focused on IT Security and Risk capabilities. This position is part of IT Architecture team part of IT organization.


The role will collaborate across PSE in a dynamic environment researching and providing solutions for IT Security and Risk technologies. The IT Security Architect plays an integral role in defining and assessing the organization’s security architecture practice. They will help interpret business and technology threat drivers and develop practical roadmaps to deal with them. Will be flexible with changing situations while working with various groups.


Job Responsibilities

  • Create strategies and maturity roadmaps for IT Security capabilities such as security controls, cloud security, networking security, firewalls, segmentations, identity and access management, security event and incident management, data security, internal / external web security, remote access security, mobile technologies security and protocols.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to executive leadership on a range of IT Security best practice architectures, solutions and technologies.

  • Develop, document and manage IT Security architecture technology standards, frameworks, security guiding principles, patterns, reference model and roadmaps.

  • Lead and drive a cross IT team in the development of IT security capability roadmap

  • Ensure architectures, technologies and solutions align with PSE’s current IT Security posture and integrates with regulatory requirements for NERC CIP, SOX, FERC, PHMSA, etc.

  • Provide IT Security architecture services to ensure secure delivery of technologies.

  • Participate in solution design reviews.

  • Effectively build influential partnering relationships up, down, and across the PSE organization.

  • Ability to socialize ideas, make recommendation and gather team consensus to solve IT Security problems.

  • Consult with project teams to fit projects to security architecture

  • Passion for improving IT Security posture through standards, controls, best practice and technologies.

  • Develop partners indirectly through coaching and mentoring on security architecture, best practices, frameworks, patterns and standards.

  • Advance IT Security architecture discipline at PSE.

  • Responsible for research and evaluation of new security technologies.

  • Operate under minimal direction.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field.
  • 12 years of directly relevant IT architecture experience.
  • 8 years of experience working in large-scale, heterogeneous IT environments.
  • Ability to translate short- and long-range IT security strategic plans for architecture into design and implementation of current and future applications.
  • Has deep technical expertise in one or two technology domains, and broad understanding of how that technology supports Line of Business functions to deliver business value.
  • Has the ability to influence with credibility across business functions or technologies with analysis (based on prior experience).
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral/presentation and written communication skills in both technical and non-technical language.
  • Strong leadership, project and team building skills – ability to lead teams and drive projects and initiatives by working effectively with others with a demonstrated ability to work cross-departmentally.
  • Strong collaborator – willingness to share ideas, documentation and best practices.
  • Conceptual and analytical thinker – ability to extract, analyze and document complex business and technical requirements/strategies from customers and IT team members.

Desired Qualifications

  • MS degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Certified Information Systems security Professional – CISSP.
  • Practical experience with NERC CIP, SOX, FERC and other utilities regulations. Understanding of NIST Cyber Security Framework (CSF).
  • Experience in using architecture methodologies such as TOGAF, Zachman.
  • Demonstrate a bias for action and apply iterative thinking and approach.
  • Current on IT Security and Risk trends and technologies.
  • Familiar with Agile Practices.
