PSE's Financial Planning & Analysis team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Finance Business Manager - Anaplan position!

Job Description

Puget Sound Energy (PSE), Washington’s largest energy company, proudly serves more than 1.2 million electric customers and nearly 900,000 natural gas customers. As part of a significant finance and budget transformation, PSE is implementing Anaplan and S/4 HANA to modernize systems and processes that support more than $5 billion in annual revenue.

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic finance professional to play a pivotal role in this transformation. In this position, you will serve as the primary representative for the Budgeting team during the implementation of Anaplan, supporting both O&M and capital spend initiatives. 

 

This role functions as a key business partner ensuring alignment between finance requirements and system capabilities.  You will be deeply involved, partnering across the organization as Anaplan is implemented over approximately one year and S/4 HANA continues across multiple years.  Following implementation, you will take the lead in building and managing the Anaplan Center of Excellence, establishing best practices, governance, and long-term value for the enterprise.

 

In addition to transformation responsibilities, you will support the broader Finance organization by developing advanced analytical tools and performing both qualitative and quantitative analyses to inform decision-making, support corporate initiatives, and solve complex business challenges.  You will lead efforts to drive interdepartmental alignment on assumptions, methodologies, model design, and procedures, while also advising leadership on corporate strategy and operational performance. This role includes leading projects, coordinating activities across finance teams, and contributing to key areas such as financial planning, treasury, and risk management.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops comprehensive financial models supporting financial planning needs of the organization.
  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria.
  • Determines procedures and coordinates activities of others to execute.
  • Builds reports and analyzes data to identify risks and opportunities and make recommendations.
  • Continually improves analytical capabilities via networking and staying current on innovations in financial metrics, techniques.
  • Directly contributes to the optimization of corporate performance via activities including short and mid-term financial planning, review of accounting issues, and the corporate spending authorization process.
  • Produces presentations for management, Board of Directors, and external investors.
  • Leads the delivery of recommendations resulting from quantitative and qualitative analyses.
  • Anticipates and identifies areas of opportunity or inherent business risks evident in the data and communicates action plans to stakeholders.
  • Provides business performance analysis support.
  • Advises and may lead process improvement efforts.
  • Promotes use and acceptance of leading practices, benchmarking, etc.
  • Company & Industry Acumen - Cross functional partners see this person as the subject matter expert; ability to synthesize complex issues and effectively communicate them to management

  • Identifies, initiates and drives improvements in the budget, forecast, and reporting processes to enable the group to function more efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitors, analyzes and manages workload to ensure optimal time management and prioritization of deliverables.
  • Solves data road blocks independently and effectively presents solutions and rationale to Directors and above.
  • Develops quantitative models independently that are error-free with strong logic that demonstrate a clear understanding of the problem.
  • Capable of driving projects from start to finish with a strong sense of urgency and high quality products.
  • Ability to coach and mentor more junior level employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field
  • 7+ years in finance roles with progressively increasing levels of responsibility preferably with time in the utility industry
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills with the ability to interface effectively with all levels of management
  • Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities and takes initiative to drive solutions; works effectively without direct supervision in a fast paced, stressful and multitasking environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a quantitative field or MBA
  • Applicable Finance Certification (CFA, CPA, CTP)
  • 5+ years of experience in the gas and/or electric industry
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and create capacity
  • Ability to anticipate unique business decisions and situations and respond accordingly
  • Experience leading and delivering projects under tight deadlines
  • Work experience in a supervisory role
  • 3-5 years of Anaplan Model Building - Design, build, and maintain scalable, efficient Anaplan models to support financial forecasting and workforce planning.

The pay range for this position is $108,200.00 - $180,200.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
