Job Description

Puget Sound Energy’s Electric System Planning department is looking for an Electrical Engineer III to join our team as a Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Planner!  This DER Planner role will focus on analyzing non-wire alternatives to address transmission and distribution system capacity and reliability needs.  Non-wire alternatives include DERs such as transmission or distribution-sited Energy Storage Systems, Solar PV, Renewable Energy, Demand Response, Combined Heat & Power, and Energy Efficiency, among others.  The Strategic System planning team plays an integral part in improving the electic transmission and distribution systems to provide for added growth and improved reliability while meeting NERC, WECC, and WUTC requirements.  The department focuses on developing long-range strategies for electric system improvements by evaluating both traditional solutions and new technologies.

The Engineer III will work in a team based role to provide professional engineering service and support in the analysis, planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of PSE transmission and/or distribution sited DER facilities and assets. This will require knowledge and analysis of the interconnected system and the applicable standards and guidelines for system design and operation. This role will interpret and apply engineering principles, practices, and theories toward the completion of assignments involving a substantial degree of complexity, with many interrelated elements requiring considerations not previously encountered. The engineer also works on project teams; including regional systems (BPA, and others where applicable) to support the successful completion of projects designed to reinforce the energy delivery or power generation systems.  Work on assignments is also performed with the goal of growing the engineers’ technical and managerial knowledge about PSE processes and systems.  This role also supports emergency response operations when needed.

We are looking for someone that is highly motivated, willing to take on new challenges, be innovative, and has demonstrated experience working with electric power system simulation, analysis of new technologies, familiarity with NERC Standards, and working on complex engineering projects. The ideal candidate has utility experience performing alternatives analysis with energy storage and distributed energy resources for transmission and distribution projects, performing engineering and economic analysis, and experience with energy storage applications.

This is an excellent opportunity to play an integral role within PSE to help us better serve the environment, our customers and the communities in which they live. PSE provides an environment where all employees are valued, respected and provided with the opportunity to achieve maximum performance. We offer a comprehensive pay package that includes competitive compensation, annual goals-based incentive bonuses, comprehensive cafeteria-style benefits, 401(K), a company paid retirement pension plan and an employee assistance and wellness program. Gain the energy to do great things through a career with Puget Sound Energy!
