PSE's Energy Supply Merchant team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Energy Risk Management Analyst position!

Job Description

Puget Sound Energy’s Power Cost & Analytics Department is looking for an Energy Risk Management Analyst to join our team. 

 

This position works collaboratively with the team to produce, analyze, and report forecasts of the purchased gas adjustment (PGA) mechanism.  Provides support and documentation of gas cost forecasts for rate filings, internal financial plans and external reporting requirements. This position models the company’s asset portfolio, monitors and reports performance metrics to support trading operations, and performs related analytical functions as needed. This position also analyzes the effectiveness of trading strategies and identifies opportunities for improvement. Works collaboratively with other team members.

Job Responsibilities

  • Forecasts purchased natural gas costs for the gas utility for five-year strategic plan, current year financial planning and rate filings.
  • Provides documentation for regulatory process as needed.
  • Develops quantitative models to solve business problems related to the economics of natural gas supply.
  • Calculates gas cost related disclosures for accounting, financial reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide both verbal and written daily, weekly and monthly reports of the company's performance in optimizing energy supply resources.
  • Serves as quantitative liaison for analytic and data requests from business partners within and outside the organization.
  • Drives continuous improvement in PSE’s trading analytics platform. This includes providing analytical support for hedging program changes, designing and updating trading models as required, and building high quality C-suite and WUTC-level presentations.
  • Interacts with financial planning, energy accounting, regulatory group, financial reporting, contracts group, gas & power supply operations and other groups on a regular basis for various projects.
  • Writes and maintains programs for processing data and performing analysis using programs such as Python or Visual Basis for Applications.
  • Provides ad hoc analyses as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Finance, Economics or Accounting or equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • Utility industry finance/accounting experience.
  • Independent thinker with strong problem solving skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong skills in: Excel, COGNOS, SAP & Access.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience using Lacima or other risk management program.
  • Regulatory knowledge and experience.
  • Understanding of energy markets and operations.
  • Programming experience in Python or Visual Basic.
  • SAP experience.
  • Graduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics or Accounting.
