Job Description

Puget Sound Energy’s Resource Planning team is looking for an analyst to join our team. 


The Resource Planning team is responsible for developing PSE’s 20-year Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) and the 10-year Clean Energy Action Plan and plays a critical role in performing quantitative and qualitative analysis related to long-term energy resource strategies. The team supports policy, regulatory and legislative electric and gas strategies with analysis; participates in regional efforts through the Northwest Power and Conservation Council, PNUCC and other regional organizations; and assists Business Initiatives and the Front Office with prudent resource acquisitions and marketing decisions. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists with performing and updating resource adequacy modeling in python & other long-term resource analysis under direction of senior staff using spreadsheet models and programs such as  Plexos, Sendout,  Aurora, etc. 
  • Assists with development and maintenance of input and output databases necessary to perform long-term resource planning analysis. 
  • Assists with researching critical energy policy issues that may affect the Company’s long-term resource strategy. 
  • Organizes results of analysis and research projects. 
  • Assists with efforts to support resource acquisitions. 
  • Supports development of written documents and presentations to help effectively communicate results of research and analyses. 
  • Creates communication materials, such as PowerPoint slides, charts, and tables  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in energy related industry including complex analysis;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Math, or related field;
  • Experience building complex spreadsheets to analyze questions;
  • Demonstrated ability to be a supportive team member.
  • Solid written, interpersonal, and group communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Math, or related field.
  • Experience using Python or other programming languages.
  • Experience using Plexos, Aurora, Sendout, Power World, or other models used for long-term resource planning.
  • Experience in resource adequacy modeling and understanding resource adequacy standards and metrics. 
  • Experience working using web based cloud solutions. 
  • Experience performing statistical analysis.
  • Experience creating and using database applications to support analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills.
