PSE's Enterprise Risk Management team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Energy Portfolio Risk Manager position!

Job Description

Supports the Finance organization by developing advanced tools and performing qualitative and quantitative analyses to drive decision-making, support corporate initiatives and resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Leads the development of interdepartmental consensus on analytical assumptions, methodologies, model selection and procedures. Advises on corporate strategy and operational performance. Leads projects and coordinates activities of finance personnel. Key areas of focus include financial planning, treasury and risk management.


Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops asset valuation models and analyzes market risk to actively monitor risk of commercial positions.
  • Performs ad-hoc analyses to inform asset modeling decisions to support risk management framework.
  • Regularly reviews market positions to identify risk drivers and recommends remedial strategies.    
  • Leads department projects relative to system enhancements, quantitative modeling and process improvement.
  • Collaborates with front office to understand supply and hedging constraints and aligns mid-office support accordingly to address key risks.
  • Reviews all transport, storage and non-standard transactions to ensure they are modeled correctly in ETRM systems.
  • Provides consultative review of transactions prior to execution that considers market, supply and credit risk implications in the decision making process. 
  • Assist in strategies to streamline and mitigate risk associated with external reporting requirements.
  • Analyzes credit provisions for standard enabling agreements and new resource acquisitions. 
  • Performs daily transaction audit, identify material changes, verify and correct discrepancies and monitor remediation as necessary.
  • Performs proactive scenario analysis of margin accounts to anticipate future collateral requirements, works with Treasury to address potential cash flow constraints.
  • Monitors daily credit exposures, notify traders when the thresholds are being approached and address limit or restriction exceedances by formulating appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders to collaborate on resolving issues, developing policy and drafting framework documentation.
  • Performs analysis, drafts memos and presents risk assessments to senior management following significant market events and to address risk mitigation opportunities. 
  • Subject matter expert on all mid-office functions that acts as a liaison between the Mid-office and trading on risk related issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field
  • 7+ years in finance roles with progressively increasing levels of responsibility preferably with time in the utility industry
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills with the ability to interface effectively with all levels of management
  • Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities and takes initiative to drive solutions; works effectively without direct supervision in a fast paced, stressful and multitasking environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a quantitative field or MBA 
  • Applicable Finance Certification (CFA, CPA, CTP)
  • 5+ years of experience in the gas and/or electric industry
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and create capacity
  • Ability to anticipate unique business decisions and situations and respond accordingly 
  • Experience leading and delivering projects under tight deadlines
  • Work experience in a supervisory role
