Job Description

PSE’s Strategic Implementation Office (SIO) is working to build a clean energy future through the PSE 2030 initiative. By 2030, PSE will have a carbon neutral electric supply will reduce customer emissions from our natural gas business by 30% while balancing safety, sustainability, reliability and affordability. The SIO is seeking an emerging technology development manager to assist in strategic planning and partnership activities while we deliver our decarbonization goals.  

The Emerging Technology Development Manager leads the evaluation and development of emerging generation technologies and customer-focused energy initiatives for PSE. Position includes management of internal cross-functional teams and external consulting resources. Serves as an authoritative representative to internal and external audiences on technical, regulatory, policy, financial and market conditions and strategies for selected energy technologies.  This position is also expected to take a lead role in responding to federal and state grant opportunities where aligned with PSE 2030 strategy. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops and champions emerging technology pilots and demonstrations. Identifies technical challenges and opportunities, current trends, and new products in the marketplace. Anticipates future needs of a decarbonized utility. Develops strategies and project implementation plans for presentation to senior management on emerging technology matters and company-wide initiatives. 
  • Identifies benefit potential. Participates in cross-functional team to implement consistent framework for evaluating new technologies based on potential benefits such as capacity, reliability, safety, energy savings, carbon reduction, etc.  Supports development of benefits realization plan for each pilot and demonstration project. 
  • Supports operational planning, including vendor and partnership management. Supports multiple project teams to identify technology requirements, test plans, personnel and equipment for operations and maintenance, and mechanisms for implementation. Identifies and builds relationships with external partners.  May negotiate contracts with external partners or vendors as necessary to deliver all aspects of pilot. 
  • Collaboratively builds and maintains strong relationships with internal departments and external entrepreneurs, businesses, communities, customers and government agencies related to emerging technologies.
  • Communicates effectively with individuals and groups and represents PSE in regional and national organizations and forums.
  • Coordinates and consults with local, state and federal agencies as a representative of PSE.  Writes and manages grant applications in alignment with strategic opportunities.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance, engineering or related field
  • 7 years’ experience in leading/implementing complex multi-disciplined market/program/product analysis, research, evaluation, or product launch
  • Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver complex customer-facing products or projects
  • Excellent organizational, analysis, and problem solving skills including applying analysis and statistical methods to study complex and unique business issues.
  • Proven ability to lead or oversee financial modeling
  • Proven ability to identify and use advanced customer and marketing analytics
  • Proven project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to synthesize data and other information into clear, actionable deliverables
  • Ability to build trust and and value-based relationships with employees at all levels of internal and external organizations.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflict
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, other presentation and analytical tools

Desired Qualifications

  • MBA
  • Experience in energy sector
