PSE's Planning & Analytics team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Economist, Consulting Energy Analyst position!

Job Description

PSE’s Load Forecasting team is highly-collaborative and passionate about using big data to forecast how PSE’s customer base will change in the future, how customers use energy, and how those usage patterns are changing, as technology and energy policies are rapidly evolving.  Energy load forecasts provide the foundation for sound financial planning, responsible resource planning, and reliable infrastructure system planning.  This is an excellent opportunity to play an integral role within PSE to help us better serve the environment, our customers and the communities in which they live.

 

We are looking for an experienced professional who in this position will continue to advance PSE’s long-term energy forecasting modeling and methodologies as necessary to support PSE’s planning for a clean energy future.  Responsible for developing quantitative and qualitative analytical and research methods for the PSE’s long-term load forecast as it supports the integrated resource plan and financial plan.  Leads the efforts to build inter-departmental consensus on analytical approaches and related critical input assumptions that will shape the company’s long-term strategy.  Coordinates, oversees, and performs research activity to identify trends in long-term energy markets including policy issues that will impact the company’s long-term planning and strategy. Leads and develops communication processes to effectively communicate analytical methods, assumptions, and results with key external stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops econometric and statistical forecasting models and analytical frameworks using long-term forecasting modeling software to analyze and forecast long-term customer growth and energy usage trends.
  • Monitors economic and energy consumption trends at the local, state, regional and national levels, and incorporate that data into the models as necessary.
  • Directs and performs research on energy industry issues that affect customer growth and energy consumption trends, and communicates implications to senior management and high-level external stakeholders.  
  • Develops communication strategies with regard to results of research and analyses both written and in presentations. Creates communication materials. 
  • Leads efforts to effectively communicate with external stakeholders to develop consensus around load forecasting issues.
  • Serves as strategic lead on special projects and technical analyses regarding complex strategic planning matters.
  • Leads and mentors staff in analysis, model development, and tracking of load forecasts and other deliverables.
  • Directs development of input databases necessary to perform long-term forecasting and related analyses.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, engineering, finance, math, or related field.
  • 10 years of experience in an energy-related industry involving performance of complex analysis.
  • Experience building complex spreadsheets and models.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a supportive team member.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and cultivate strong working relationships with contractual counterparties, regulators and other industry participants.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid written, interpersonal, and group communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in business, economics, engineering, finance, math, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical analyses, forecasting and econometric theory.
  • Experience using Itron MetrixND, Eviews, LoadSEER or other modeling frameworks used for long-term load forecasting.
  • Experience with SAS, SQL, R, Python or other data analytic programming tools.
  • Demonstrated creative problem solving abilities.
