PSE's Planning & Analytics team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Economic Forecasting Analyst position!

Job Description

PSE’s Load Forecasting team is highly-collaborative and passionate about using big data to forecast how PSE’s customer base will change in the future, how customers use energy, and how those usage patterns are changing, as technology and energy policies are changing rapidly.  Energy load forecasts provide the foundation for sound financial planning, responsible resource planning, and reliable infrastructure system planning.  This is an excellent opportunity to play an integral role within PSE to help us better serve the environment, our customers and the communities in which they live.


We are looking for candidates that have demonstrated strong quantitative skills and experience performing utility load forecasting or utility load research. An advanced degree in economics, statistics, engineering, finance, or similar mathematically rigorous field will be preferred. The successful candidate must have strong data programming and analytical skills as well as experience presenting insights to various audiences using data visualization techniques. Candidates must also have a strong project management background as this position leads a number of ongoing analytical initiatives related to developing data libraries of end use energy consumption patterns.  We seek candidates with superior team and interpersonal skills to help maintain a supportive, productive team environment. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of econometric and statistical forecasting models and analytical frameworks, along with load research and end use studies to examine how customers use energy within their homes and businesses.
  • Extract data from various internal and external systems; perform exploratory data analysis, cleanse/massage, or aggregate data; apply data analysis, data mining and visualization to accurately develop insights/conclusions or to automate work processes.
  • Perform analysis to support production of electric and gas customer growth, load growth, and peak load growth forecasts as needed to support various planning functions.
  • Lead PSE’s efforts to develop data related to end use consumption patterns and trends.    
  • Assist in development and implementation of communication strategies and materials to effectively present results of forecasts up the chain of command including senior management and key external stakeholders both written and in oral presentations.
  • Assists department staff in the development and execution of economic forecasting efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, mathematics, finance, engineering, or similar fields
  • 5 years of experience in economic or energy related forecasting or related field
  • Knowledge of forecasting and econometric theory and applications
  • Familiarity with quantitative techniques
  • Programming experience in econometric packages such as EViews or SAS or similar
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated solid interpersonal and team skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in in economics, statistics, mathematics, finance, engineering, or similar fields
  • Knowledge of energy forecasting tools such as Itron MetrixND or LoadSEER, and familiarity with SQL, R, Python or other data programming tools
