PSE's VP Clean Energy Strategy team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Decarbonization Strategy Manager position!

Job Description

PSE’s Strategic Implementation Office (SIO) is working to build a clean energy future through the PSE 2030 initiative. PSE has an aspirational goal to deliver a 30% carbon reduction by 2030 and 100% carbon neutral natural gas business by 2045, while balancing safety, sustainability, reliability and affordability for PSE customers. The SIO is seeking an experienced strategy development manager to assist PSE in delivering on our natural gas business carbon reduction goals, with carbon neutrality in 2045 as the ultimate target.  This position will interact with the four major work streams of PSE 2030 to ensure that PSE level milestones are being met, and that the integrated strategic roadmap is analyzed for any risks.


The Decarbonization Strategy Development Manager works in highly matrixed and cross-functional settings, bringing together operational, customer, IT, regulatory, and other requirements to create and sustain a strategic direction to meet PSE’s 2030 goals as technology and policy landscapes shift.  The role also leads cross-functional teams to identify and continuously improve coordination and strategic analysis. Areas of focus may include: clean fuels, targeted electrification, energy efficient appliances, cap and invest compliance, and carbon offset programs. This role may contribute to regulatory proceedings and filings.


This position will collaborate with work stream members to ensure successful delivery of work stream tactics and bring high-level visibility to any risks and interdependencies with regard to PSE 2030.  At times, this position will work at a tactical, project management level with work streams to augment support.  This position will monitor timelines and deliverable expectations of the work streams to assist PSE in achieving the desired 2030 operational state.


The successful candidate will be comfortable with ambiguity and excited by the prospect of bringing together diverse perspectives to sustain a multi-year roadmap for gas decarbonization that addresses people, process, regulatory, and technology needs.


Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops strategic pathways: Develops and manages the gas decarbonization pathway through regular engagement with internal and external customers, as well as industry stakeholders. Provides strategic direction to tactical implementation teams through internal and external approvals.  Provides project management support as required. 
  • Leads gas decarbonization planning: With cross-functional workstream partners, identifies best means to deliver solutions, including addressing people, process, regulatory, and technology gaps. Establishes KPIs and reporting as appropriate.
  • Manages the gas decarbonization roadmap: Sustains a 2030 view of platforms, processes, tools, and resources needed to support gas decarbonization goal. Sequences improvements to align with strategic priorities, business and regulatory processes, and implementation plans.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance, engineering or related field
  • 7 years’ experience in leading/implementing complex multi-disciplined market/program/product analysis, research, evaluation, or product launch
  • Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver complex customer-facing products or projects
  • Excellent organizational, analysis, and problem solving skills including applying analysis and statistical methods to study complex and unique business issues.
  • Proven ability to lead or oversee financial modeling
  • Proven ability to identify and use advanced customer and marketing analytics
  • Proven project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to synthesize data and other information into clear, actionable deliverables
  • Ability to build trust and and value-based relationships with employees at all levels of internal and external organizations.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflict
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, other presentation and analytical tools

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree
  • Experience in energy sector, particularly with natural gas or alternative fuels
  • Experience in strategy development
