PSE's Planning team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Engineer In Training (Spring/Summer 2021) position!

Job Description

Puget Sound Energy is looking to hire early-career engineers as “Engineers in Training” (EITs) to participate in our Engineering Development Program.  This is an entry level position for those interested in pursuing a career in Engineering who have between 0-2 years of experience in engineering design, preparation of specifications, technical field work, or system studies. These positions will be working remotely while our Work From Home policy is in place. Office locations may include South King, Factoria, or Bothell. 

 

As a participant in the Engineering Development Program, you will complete a series of in-depth assignments to grow knowledge and skills for a successful and rewarding career in the energy and utility industry.  Your progression through this program will be demonstrated by increasing responsibilities and opportunities to provide exceptional customer service, improve reliability of PSE’s electric and gas systems, and support adoption of emerging technologies and sustainable resources.  Your performance will be rewarded by advancement through multiple levels of engineering positions. Your EIT experience will begin with an approximate two-year field assignment on a Customer & System Projects or Distribution System Design team.  You will learn about materials and equipment used in our electric and gas distribution systems, gain valuable experience in project management negotiate with customers and jurisdictions, and coordinate with construction teams to see your projects through to completion.  After this initial assignment, you will move into engineering positions which may include responsibility for:

  • major and complex engineering designs related to electric and gas transmission
  • substation design and operations
  • generation plant maintenance and support
  • modeling and analysis of electric and gas systems
  • selecting and specifying commodities and equipment
  • developing field procedures, standards and specifications to ensure PSE operates successfully in a regulated business environment
  • assisting customers in managing their energy use through participation in PSE’s efficiency and renewable energy programs
Job Responsibilities
  • Applying basic engineering principles, practices, theories, and methods and commonly applied engineering approaches and calculations
  • Communicate and manage the customer relationship as the primary point of contact.
  • Accurately identify customer needs, set reasonable expectations, identify potential issues, and ensure customer understands associated costs and requirements.
  • Using judgment in the selection and application of engineering methods and the modification of standard models, designs, or procedures
  • Preparing cost estimates and specifications, performing engineering studies and designs, and conducting office and field research
  • Planning and developing project budgets
  • Providing verification and field measurements of new equipment and system installations
  • Acquiring performance data from new and existing equipment or systems to validate against design parameters
  • Supporting emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS degree in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering discipline 
  • Entry level to 2 years of experience in engineering design, preparation of specifications, technical field work, or system studies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Possession of or ability to acquire an EIT certificate
  • Knowledge of engineering economics and analysis
  • Experience in project cost estimating or scheduling
  • Curriculum emphasis in power engineering (for BSEE applicants)
  • Work or internship experience in utility engineering or related fields
