PSE's Environmental Services team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Senior Environmental Scientist position!

Job Description

This role directs the design, implementation, analysis, and/or management of detailed environmental activities to fulfill PSE’s objectives and programs. Formulates programs to conduct, review, and monitor assigned compliance activities associated with environmental regulations for the construction and operation of company facilities. Creates and conducts environmental trainings and builds processes to maintain compliance with various environmental regulations (primarily, but not limited to SPCC, waste, and hazardous material).  Conducts work in inter-disciplinary teams designed to accomplish departmental and inter-departmental environmental compliance objectives. Coordinates work with personnel from operations and other departments.

The successful candidate will provide SME level regulatory support to the company. Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total inclusion, diversity and safety.

Job Responsibilities

  • Engages with PSE facilities in its compliance programs related to management of hazardous materials (e.g., EPCRA, SPCC), management and disposal of dangerous/hazardous wastes, and spill response at PSE facilities and offsite within its service area.
  • Directs or supports PSE environmental cleanup projects related to legacy activities (MTCA).
  • Conducts agency coordination and consultation as a representative of PSE on environmental compliance and permitting issues.
  • Develops standard operating procedures, documents programmatic evaluations, secures appropriate permits and/or regulatory approvals, and conducts other administrative duties in support of company environmental programs and operations.
  • Performs and coordinates a wide variety of complex environmental analyses in cross discipline areas and design tasks in the facility and office settings.
  • Prepares, plans and manages projects and supervises consultants in project support.
  • Develops compliance reports and programmatic compliance functions, and maintains records and documentation to support compliance audits.
  • Develops and maintains tools for managing daily and annual operating records for operations facilities.
  • Provides clear reporting and documentation of assigned activities.
  • Supports budget development and tracking.
  • Provides support for other departmental administrative activities, initiatives, and projects.
  • Familiarity with emergency spill response procedures and oversight.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS or Master’s Environmental Science, Biology, Hydrology, Engineering, Anthropology, Mathematics, or similar with 7 or more years of experience in the field (four years of appropriate additional experience may be considered in lieu of advanced degree).
  • Experience and proficiency with MS Office, including Excel and Access, or industry equivalent software applications.

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience or familiarity with electric or gas industry.
